WEATHER
The tropical weather of Cumbuco —with temperatures ranging from 24 ºC to 29 ºC all year round— is due to its location near the Equator.
The weather could be rainy from January to July (during the humid season) specially at night.
The temperature of water is also warm, from 20 ºC to 25 ºC.
WIND
Wind blows almost daily in Cumbuco from July to February. The best months are August and September when smaller size kites are used.
Wind is more unreliable during the humid season but it is also possible to enjoy some good days.
KITE SPOTS
In the northeast of Brazil, wind blows from right almost all along the coast, getting stronger from south to north with its peak of intensity in Jericoacoara. Although it is possible to surf almost everywhere, we want to mention the best known spots from south to north:
- Canoa Quebrada: Located 230 km south from Cumbuco. It has some nice beaches on the bottom of red soiled cliffs that shape an unforgettable landscape. Wind blows on-shore. The mouth of the river Jaguaribe is about 13 km away and in that spot it is possible to ride with almost flat water, especially during low tide.
- Lagoa de Prainha: This small lagoon is located one hour southwards Cumbuco, some km from Fortaleza and near the famous aquatic park Beach Park. This lagoon is not that big but it is good to kite due to the little number of people who go there. Try to be there with high tide.
- Lagoa de Beach Park: Located near the aquatic park, it has bigger dimensions and it works well with high tide.
- Lagoa de Tabuba: Near our Pousada. It is recommended to use pointed shoes to avoid feet injuries due to oysters.
- Pico das Almas: The perfect spot if you like waves. Pico das Almas is a beach located about 3km from Cumbuco, right before Lagoa de Cauípe. It has a lot of coconut palms and waves are assured. This year, it will be the emplacement for the WaveMaster of KPWT.
- Lagoa de Cauípe: The most famous, crowded lagoon. It is located about 5 km northwards Cumbuco. You can make a downwind from our Pousada or any other spot in Cumbuco. There you will find places to eat and bodyboarders who can take you wherever you want for a small amount of money.
- Lagoa de Taiba: Nice although small lagoon northwards the exit of Taiba town.
- Paracurú-Quebramar: Famous beach located approximately 50 minutes from Cumbuco. It is possible to kite with flat water and low tide because of a cliff where waves break.
- Mundaú: Located about 3 hours from Cumbuco. You can kite in the mouth of the river with strong wind and awesome sand dunes.
- Preá: Located about 6 hours from Cumbuco and approximately 10 km before Jericoacoara. This is the number one spot for kiteboarding. Wind is usually quite strong all around the area, so bring smaller sizes of kites.
- Jericoacoara: Beautiful villa in the middle of a wildlife park. Wind is very strong and there are many spots for kiteboarding such as the beach on the left side of the town, the bar of the Guriú river, Lagoa de Tatajuba, Lagoa Paraíso, etc.

Money can be exchanged in Fortaleza. You can find a money exchange place (SADOC) in Av. Monsenhor Tabosa and some more in the promenade seafront of Beiramar. You can also use the international credit card in most of the shops and cashiers. You will find the best exchange rate in Banco do Brasil. Due to security reasons, it is forbidden to withdraw more than R$ 1,000 per day.
VISA
You must have your passport in order with a validity of six months. For most European countries, the state of Brazil allows a stay of 90 days as tourist that can be extended for other 180 days at the Federal Police Office. For more information, please click here

TIME DIFFERENCE
Time doesn’t change in the region of Fortaleza. According to the European daylight saving time, it would be:
4 hours less than Europe in winter.
5 hours less than Europe in summer.
USEFUL INFORMATION
• Water is quite warm, so you will not need a wetsuit to kite. Just a long sleeve lycra is enough to avoid contact with the harness and to protect your skin from the sun.
• The sun burns a lot, so you must use a high sun protection in the uncovered parts of you body.
• Bring a spray for mosquitoes. It is better to buy one you can plug inside the room. Mosquitoes are more common in the humid season —when the weather is windy they don’t usually appear.

EATING OUT
There is a variety of restaurants in Cumbuco:
Pizzeria chef Rulio: Near our Pousada, right on the road. Delicious pizzas made in oven using firewood.
Dot´s Restaurant: Also near our Pousada, in the same road. Here you will find a wide range of dishes belonging to the cearense gastronomy such as panelada, sarabulho, galinha caipira, moqueca de arraia, picadinho, etc.
O Gaucho Restaurant: On the left side of Cumbuco. This is one of the best meat restaurants of the area. Don’t forget to try picanha and file mignon.
La Laranja Mecanica Restaurant: In the center of Cumbuco, right in front of the sea. International food.
Restaurant A.C.L : Placed in Cumbuco's square. They
prepare an exquisite grilled chicken.
AT NIGHT
Cumbuco: People gather to have a drink in Laranja Mecanica, a night bar on the beach side in the center of Cumbuco.
Fortaleza: Every night is a party in Fortaleza. There is always a place in fashion. The most famous are Pirata, Armazem, Orbita and Mucuripe.
DRIVING LICENSE
Don’t forget you will need the international driving license if you want to rent a car in Brazil.
CALLING
If you want to call to your country, it is cheaper and easier to have a Skype account and internet connection. Another option is to buy an Embratel prepay card in the airport or in the Post offices of Fortaleza, so you can call from a phone box.
Using your mobile phone can be very expensive.
INTERNET CONNECTION
If you bring your laptop, you will profit from free wireless connection in our Pousada. In addition, there is a cyber near our Pousada and three more in Cumbuco.
